Airtel Masaza 2020: Bulemeezi vs. Butambala, December 12, 2020, 3PM

Champions Bulemeezi will kick-off the defence of their Airtel Masaza Championship crown in an exciting clash against Butambala at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on December, 12, 2020.

The Contest will be the tournament opener and the game will be played behind closed doors as a way to curb Covid19.

As the norm stands, the Kabaka of Buganda his Royal Majesty, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi will grace the tournament as the chief guest at the opening game, though the game will be played behind closed doors.

The Buganda Minister of Sports, Youth and Recreation, Henry Ssekabembe revealed the day’s programme after confirming the preparations were done.

“All preparations for the 2020 Masaza Cup are done, On Saturday at 1:30 pm all invited guests will be arriving, at 2:10 pm will be Katikiro’s (Charles Peter Mayiga) arrival.”

“At 2:40 pm the Kabaka of Buganda will appear before the entire kingdom in his own county Kyaggwe,” Ssekabembe said.

According to Ssekabembe, the committee is determined to see that they hold peace throughout the tourney as they hold such a competition that will take place inside a bubble.

Bulemeezi will be on a hunt for the third Masaza title after winning in 2012 and 2019 though they lost to Buluuli in 2011 while Butambala will search for their first title since they have never made it even to the finals.

“We are determined to defend our trophy. Starting with the opening match against Butambala.”

“The players will be given specific instructions to play their hearts out. Every match in the group stages will be like a cup final,” Bulemeezi coach Simon Peter Mugerwa stated.
