Ssingo Ssaza head coach Micheal Kabali admits that there is significant work and improvement that should be done by his team before their next group game in the 2020 Airtel Masaza Cup.

The 2018 champions were held to a 1-1 draw by Buruuli in their first game of the tournament at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Sunday afternoon.

Kabali’s side were favourites heading into the game, but had to scrap back to get a point after they fell behind in the game.

“We are going back to the drawing board to correct some mistakes,” Kabali told media after the game.

“We created a couple of difficult moments for ourselves and we need to clear a few things before our next game.”

“Coming into the tournament, the target was to win the championship, but we need to go through the group first. To do that, we should make sure that we win our games,” he added.

Second half substitute Henry Tenywa put Buruuli into the driving seat in the 60th minute, powering his effort past Ssingo custodian Fred Ntege after a goalless first half.

Buruuli had a couple of good opportunities, but failed to take them and Ssingo made them pay with four minutes to play until full time.

Godfrey Kakooza engineered an attack from inside his own half, peeling away from a couple of challenges from Buruuli defenders to set up Daniel Kazibwe who picked up Joseph Ssewali to level matters.

“Yes, we picked up a point and this leaves the group open. It is disappointing because we were the favourites heading into the game but unfortunately failed to utilise our advantage,” Kabali stated.

On why the squad is not full, Kabali said; “It should be noted that some players are not here due to academic commitments.”

“I know they will join the team soon because I personally can’t deny a player education so let’s pray, they finish their exams and join us on time.”

The draw left the Butikiro group open with the four teams that have played so far level on one point. Butambala held defending champions Bulemeezi in the opening game of the tournament on Saturday
