Brian Omirambe scored twice, with Ivan Irinimbabazi scoring the other as Busujju registered a comfortable 3-1 victory over Buvuma at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru on Tuesday.
Busujju who registered their second victory in the Bulange group will hope that the victory is enough to guarantee a place in the knockout rounds of the 2020 Airtel Masaza Cup if Buwekula fail to win in their remaining game.
Busujju were given a good opportunity to go ahead early on after captain Ronald Kaye was brought down in the penalty area.
But Shafic Kakande who had scored in each of the team’s previous two games failed to beat Buvuma keeper John Kalema.
Buvuma gained confidence as the game grew and kept Busujju on the receiving end. The Islanders’ preference for long balls causing a couple of problems for Busujju’s backline.
One such lofted ball from Jolly Masanso fell nicely for Bruno Bunyanga who controlled well but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper Henry Kalule.
The game lit up immediately after the restart, Omirambe’s strike taking a deflection before looping over Kalema just 20 seconds after the start of the second half.
Five minutes later, Irinimbabazi doubled Busujju’s lead with a header at the far post from a deep corner kick.
Omirambe put the game beyond Buvuma in the 67th minute, rashing onto Kaye’s lofted pass behind the defenders to chip over Kalema.
Buvuma did pull a goal back with nine minutes of the game to play, Bunyanga’s brilliant header off Joseph Kakembo’s cross beating a stranded Kalule who was withdrawn moments later.
Busujju’s win takes them to seven points from four games level with table leaders and it also ended Kyaggwe’s prospects of a knockout place.
