Buganda Kingdom has announced that the finals of the 2020 Airtel Masaza Cup between record champions Gomba and Buddu will be played on March 6, 2020, at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The announcement was made at a press brief by Buganda Kingdom Minister of Sports, Leisure and Recreation Henry Moses Ssekabembe at Bulange Garden, Mengo.
“We are delighted that as Buganda Kingdom we announce the date for the final and third-place playoff matches at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende,” Ssekabembe told the press in Mengo.
“I thank the organising committee, the masaza teams, sponsors and patterns and all media houses who have seen the tournament become a success even when all seemed hard,” he added.
During the press brief Ssekabembe was escorted by Suleiman Ssejjengo, chairperson of the organising committee and other committee members such as Ronald Kawadwa and sponsor representatives.
“We had a total of 540 people tested for coronavirus. Three hundred sixty were team players and officials with the rest being members of the organising committee and the media group,” Ssejengo told the press
The finals were supposed to be played on January 23, but it was postponed in order to allow preparations that will ensure fans have an opportunity to attend the final.
On the same date, there will be a classification game between Bulemeezi and Busiro at 12:00 PM for third place.
The final between Gomba and Buddu will kick off later at 3:00 PM and will be graced by His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with UGX 12 million, the runner up third and fourth will all be awarded eight, seven and five million respectively.
