Tony Mawejje played for a dozen of clubs during his playing career and upon his retirement, he opened up on which one was his best.

It is KCCA FC and ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar for the midfielder who also played for URA, Masaka LC and Police in the local league.

“Here in Uganda my best team was KCCA and abroad it was ÍBV,” Mawejje revealed in an interview with Football256.

“KCCA picked me up from Masaka at a young age and that was so exciting because it is one of the best teams in the country.”

“I was overjoyed to don that KCCA jersey and I wore it with pride. Yes, I also played for Police FC and URA FC but KCCA stands out for me.”

“It is at KCCA that I started playing for the Uganda Cranes and nothing beats such a feeling,” he added.

He was scouted by KCCA in 2004 from Masaka Local Council FC. Mawejje spent two years with the Kasasiro Boys winning the Uganda Cup in his first season with the club.

“I won a trophy (Uganda Cup) in my first season and also finished second in the league twice.”

“The only thing that hurts me is that I did not win much with KCCA but the club opened the door for me,” Mawejje stated.

In 2009, the former URA midfielder went to the paid ranks in Iceland at ÍBV plying his trade at the club until 2013.

“Although I played for several teams overseas, it is ÍBV that I call home, first things first it was my first club abroad.”

“I as well stayed at the club for so long. That is the longest I have been at a single club.”

“Playing for ÍBV was a great experience and playing in the Europa League qualifiers was the best moment for me at the club,” he noted.

Following his retirement from active football at the end of the 2021/22 season, Mawejje will have two testimonial games on September 14th and 16th, 2022.

The games will be played between the current Uganda Cranes squad and the 2017 Cranes AFCON squad at Lugogo and Masaka Recreation Grounds respectively.

Entrance fees will be 20,000/= and 50,000/= for the general and VIP ticket respectively at Lugogo while 10,000/= will be paid in Masaka.
