McKinstry, Kajoba, FUFA, meet for peace

By Edwin Kyle Kule

Uganda Cranes coach Johnathan McKinstry and his goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba have today evening met at the Kabira Country Club before the team flies out to Cameroon on Monday.

The meeting that started at about 6PM was convened between FUFA President Moses Magogo, CEO Edgar Watson, Johnathan McKinstry and Kajoba.

Magogo clad in a pink shirt and Watson in a maroon T-shirt, black trousers with white sneakers arrived at Kabira in Bukoto at about 5:30 PM.

Meanwhile, in his yellow Cranes T-shirt with his initials FK at the front, Kajoba arrived minutes later as the three sat the Kabira main restaurant for about 20 minutes, literally with little to say to each.

At about 6:30 PM, McKinstry walked clad in his full Uganda Cranes tracksuit complete with a black mask.

At that moment, the four gentlemen relocated from the Kabira restaurant area to the lounge for the main session believed to be about creating harmony over the events of the past days.

The meeting lasted for about an hour and 25 minutes before it broke off with Kajoba later spotted leaving in his car at about 7:55 PM.

What remains ambiguous is whether he went back to the team hotel or he returned home as he awaits a further decision from FUFA and McKinstry who remained in conversation after he had left.

Goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba was thrown out of the Cranes camp for flouting camp regulations inline with COVID-19 after he went outside the camp to attend prayers on Christmas day.

FUFA then made it clear that they had mounted a search for a replacement for Kajoba in the meantime as the team continues to prepare for the CHAN tournament due January – February 2021.

Since his dismissal, Kajoba has launched a full-blown criticism of the decision pouring scorn over the incidents via social media, revealing that other members of the technical team including McKinstry have been allowed access outside the camp.

But looks like FUFA want to settle this amicably and have Kajoba maintained as Cranes goalkeeping coach.

Whether FUFA and Kajoba will come out on top on this one or McKinstry will stick to his guns is something we are following closely.
