Uganda Cranes youngster Mustafa Kizza made his Montreal Impact debut on Sunday as the Arsenal legend Thierry Henry coached side defeated D.C United 3-2 away from home.
Bojan Krkić, Victor Wanyama and Romell Quioto were all on the score sheet as the Canadian club fought hard to earn a place in the playoff on the last day of the regular season.
D.C United who were a hard nut to crack on the day, scored their two goals through Donovan Pines and Ola Kamara.
Kizza started on the bench having had only a few training sessions with the rest of his teammates after his unveiling at the end of last week.
However the former KCCA FC left-back was introduced in the 71st minute replacing Amar Sejdic to mark his debut with his side trailing 2-1.
Soon after his introduction, Montreal levelled matters thanks to Kizza’s fellow East Afrcan and Kenya Harambe Star captain Victor Wanyama’s equalizer in the 74th minute.
With both sides fighting for their lives inside the last ten minutes of the game the 21-year old Ugandan was involved in a moment that mattered most for his side.
Kizza who was standing inches past the centerline played a beautiful pass down the left to Mason Toye whose well-weighted cross found Romell Quioto who ran in between two D.C United defenders to tap home and give Montreal the lead in the 88th minute of the game.
Montreal Impact were reduced to ten men in the 90th minute when Samuel Piette was shown red but that didn’t matter at all as the away side held on to win hence earning a playoff slot.
With the win, Thierry Henry’s charges finish ninth in the Eastern Conference, booking themselves a date with the New England Revolution for a knockout game on Friday, November 20.
Ugandans will be hoping that Henry hands Mustafa Kizza his full debut.
