After Guinea was stripped of the rights to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations because of unreadiness in September, several nations expressed interest in taking over including Morocco.

The Moroccans are now seeking support for their bid and through their King, His Highness Mohammed VI they have written to Uganda over the matter.

“Received a message from His Highness, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, seeking support in their bid to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations,” a post on His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the President of the Republic of Uganda’s Twitter account read.

“Being the first country to approach us, I will support them on condition that it does not collide with the interests of the East African states.”

Museveni’s response further tells how determined Uganda could be in the ambition to one day host the greatest football showpiece on the African continent.

As things stand there will be no collision with interests from East Africa given that Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya are targeting the 2027 AFCON and the aim is to co-host.

However, many of the Ugandan football faithful have continued to doubt this project all aligned to the lack of facilities in the Pearl of Africa.

Amongst the 54 associations, Uganda is one of those that have a member who seats on the CAF Executive Committee in the FUFA President Moses Magogo.

It is therefore right for nations like Morocco who are seeking to host the tournament to rub shoulders with such states which have people involved in decision-making.

Morocco is not the only country interested in hosting the competition in 2025, there are also interested bids from other countries including; Algeria, South Africa, and Senegal while Nigeria and Benin want to co-host.

Next week on Friday 16th December, all the above nations will submit their final bid including all bidding and hosting documents (hosting agreement, host cities agreement, and government guarantees).

Between the 5th and 25th of January 2023, the Inspections will be done before CAF Executive Committee appoint a host on February 10th.
