As the wait for a permanent Uganda Cranes coach continues, Abdallah Mubiru’s tenure as the head on an interim basis will continue.
The latest development according to Kawowo Sports is that Mubiru will be in charge of the Cranes ahead of the international friendly against Kenya on September 8th in Nairobi.
Mubiru replaced Frenchman Sebastien Desabre who resigned as Cranes’ head coach after the team exited the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation at the Round of 16 following a 1-0 loss to Senegal.
The current Police FC coach in the Uganda Premier League had earlier also handled the Cranes at the 2019 COSAFA Championship and was in charge of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Somalia as Uganda advanced 7-2 on aggregate.
The team for the friendly against Kenya is yet to be assembled but it is expected to be dominated by the local based players ahead of the last CHAN qualifier against Burundi later this month.
Although chances are that the foreign-based players will also be given a chance to work with the former Cranes international.
In his tenure as interim head coach, Mubiru has worked with Livingstone Mbabazi as his assistant and Sadik Wassa as the goalkeeping coach with Massa Geoffrey as the team’s coordinator.
