Mugabi shoulder injury huge blow for Cranes

Days after returning to his club Motherwell FC from Uganda Cranes’ training camp in Dubai, defender Bevis Mugabi has suffered a shoulder injury.

Mugabi dislocated his shoulder while training with the Scottish side and will be out for a period between four to six weeks.

Which rules him out of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier doubleheader against South Sudan in November.

The Cranes visit South Sudan for the first leg on November 9 before they host the latter on November 17 in the 2022 AFCON qualifiers.

Having established himself as an important figure in the Uganda Cranes backline, head coach Johnathan McKinstry will now have to look at other options at his disposal ahead of the CAF engagements.

The 26-year-old had established himself as a mainstay in manager Stephen Robinson’s starting line-up with impressive performances so far this season.

“It is a blow to lose Bevis. He has played his way into the team and acquitted himself very well,” Robinson said of the defender.

“He just seems to be unfortunate that when he gets a run of games, he suffers an injury,” he added.

Mugabi’s Motherwell lies eighth on the 12-team log having collected nine points from nine games with a game in hand.

Motherwell is on the road and will take on St. Mirren on Matchday 11 of the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.
