Brian Muluuli Mayanja is delighted to have started an incredible chapter in his career with a winning goal on his debut for Police FC on Friday afternoon.
The striker who completed a low key move from Kitara FC in January found the back of the net late on as the Cops earned a 3-1 victory against Kyetume FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
“It was a good game not only for me but for the team as well,” he told Football256.
“We get the three points but more importantly proved that when we work together, we can get the results like we did against Kyetume.”
“But we do not only take the result but the performance as well was good. I felt we applied ourselves better on our opponents,” he added.
Abdallah Mubiru who was limited with options up front as club’s leading top scorer Ben Ocen and young forward Derrick Kakooza were all unavailable for the game.
The coach called upon his new recruit earlier than he had planned, and he did not disappoint as he latched onto Eric Ssenjobe’s cross to surely seal victory in the 73rd minute.
“I am happy that it has not taken long before I got my first goal for the club because as a front man, your aim is to scoring as much as you can,” he said.
“It is important for a new player, playing in your first game like me to hit the ground running and I carried that mentality into the game.”
“This goal now gives me the confidence to continue my run in front of goal because it is what I love to do and it builds on my ambition of fighting for the golden boot by the end of the season,” Muluuli mentioned.
His goal (a fourth for the season after scoring three for Kitara) came after Johnson Odong and another debutant Muwadda Mawejje’s first half goals had given Police the advantage.
Police rose to the top of the table with their fourth win of the season on 13 points from six games overtaking UPDF who held top spot going into the weekend.
UPDF visit third placed Vipers on Saturday at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, and a win for either side will lift them back over Police.
The Cops return to action on Tuesday, February 16 with another home tie against BUL FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
