By Clive Kyazze

Onduparaka midfielder Gaddafi Gadinho and KCCA FC manager Mike Mutebi have been voted the Pilsner player and coach of the month of December respectively.

Gadinho beat SC Villa striker Bashir Miranda while Mutebi beat his URA counterpart Sam Ssimbwa to the accolade at a function held on Tuesday morning at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala.

In December, Gadinho scored two goals in five games and on two occasions he was voted the Pilsner player of the match. On the other hand, Mutanda scored four goals in the five games he played.

“I am much honored to be named the player of the month for December 2018. It motivates me to play well,” Gaddafi said in his acceptance speech before adding.

“I thank the club management and the rest of my teammates as well as the fans. I am indeed happy that the league has recognized me.”

Mutebi and his KCCA FC side collected 12 points out of a possible 15 while Ssimbwa’s URA picked eight out of the available 15.

“It’s great for me to win the accolade because it encourages us who earn from the game to work hard,” Mutebi told the journalists present.

“Personally the accolade is more important than the cash because I will always look at it and say that I did win this, but I applaud Uganda Breweries for the initiative and the UPL,” he added.

For some time now, Mutebi has been giving advice or cautioning players of other teams on what they need to do to keep their stars shining, he didn’t mince his words as he did the same to Gadinho.

“I usually say, Gaddafi is among the players with unfinished business because I have seen him since he started his football career,” Mutebi said triggering laughter from those present.

“He needs to stay focused and not get carried away by the money. He has to continue working hard to shine beyond West Nile. I believe he deserved to win the accolade basing on his performances exhibited in the month of December,” he added.

Each of the winners walked away with Shs1M and for the first time, they also had accolades to take home.
