If it’s results that are standing between the future of Mike Mutebi and KCCA FC, looks like the former will be the reason his relationship and the Lugogo based club comes to an end.
KCCA FC have lost the last three league games in the Uganda Premier League against URA (2-1) SC Villa (2-1) and BUL (2-1), their worst run since Mutebi joined the side in 2015.
Not to mention their elimination from the 2021 CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of AS Kigali 3-3 on aggregate.
It was the third straight season they fail to meet their ultimate target which is making the group stage of any interclub competition.
For some time Mutebi’s relationship with his bosses at Lugogo has been deteriorating because of his conduct but also because of the poor run of results and the extravagant recruitment policy that never replicates their performances on the field.
“His future is something the board is yet to decide on,” a source on grounds of anonymity told Football256 before adding; “Of course we shall have to seat and come out with a final decision.”
“A decision that will be the best for all stakeholders, because Mike (Mutebi) has been a good servant of the football club and he is still serving us well.”
“And he still has a running contract that expires at the end of this season, whether we renew or decide not to renew that’s a decision we must take as a board,” the source added.
It should be noted that last season was the first under Mutebi for KCCA FC to finish the season trophyless and much as they got the green light to play on the continent.
Because KCCA FC have their performance bar so high, this website can report on authority that the poor run of events on the pitch will need to change if Mutebi’s future at Lugogo is to remain bright.
Otherwise, it will take something special to convince the board to renew Mutebi’s contract that runs out this July.
