KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi has delivered a glowing verdict on the club’s new signing Brian Aheebwa after his imperious debut last week.
Mutebi admitted that he was impressed with Aheebwa’s performance during his first game for the club and he hopes for more of the same from the forward.
The Kasasiro Boys signed Aheebwa from Mbarara City FC in the transfer window as a free agent after the expiry of his three-year contract with the Ankole Lions.
He made his KCCA debut in the Lugogo based side’s 2-1 win against Soltilo Bright Stars FC in the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League season opener, scoring one goal and assisting the other.
“It’s good that he started his life here well because it also portrays a clear picture of why we signed him,” Mutebi said of the player before adding.
“We brought him (Aheebwa) knowing that he’s the right number nine who only needed to be taught a few things here and there, which we are capable of doing.”
“He has got the talent and he believes in himself so his quick adaptability gives me and my coaching staff confidence that we identified a right player,”
“And if he can be consistent enough, I think he will score over 15 goals this season,” a bold Mutebi added.
The 22-year-old striker arrived at KCCA with a reputation as one of League’s best strikers following a sensational return of eight league goals last season, with the top scorer (Steven Mukwala) finishing with 13.
The Uganda Cranes forward is once again expected to lead the line when KCCA host Onduparaka at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo on Tuesday, December 8.
With only one game played so far in the 2020/21 UPL season, KCCA occupy second place on three points behind leaders UPDF on goal difference. UPDF FC defeated Busoga United 3-0.
Mutebi’s side who lost their league crown to Vipers SC and won nothing the past season will rely on players like Aheebwa in order for them to have a touch on silverware this campaign.
