Mutyaba joins Express, given shirt 10

By Brian Aheebwa

Former KCCA FC midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba has finally found a new club, joining Express FC on a one-year-contract until January 2022.

Mutyaba was amongst a bunch of players released by head coach Mike Mutebi in the August with the latter focusing on bringing in young players at Lugogo.

And since then Mutyaba has been linked to a number of clubs including Tanzanian side Azam FC but the future is now decided, he’ll be playing at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku at least for the next one year.

His arrival will also see a change in squad numbers for the club, Mutyaba will take up shirt number 10 from midfielder Godfrey Lwesibawa who’ll now don shirt number 96.

The 27-year-old is expected to add creativity as far as making assists is concerned in the Express midfield when the season gets back from a break in February.

He can also add on the team’s goals given his ability to score, Mutyaba had managed three goals for KCCA before last season was abandoned due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.

Only striker Frank Kalanda (11) and winger Frank Ssenyondo (7) the only Express players with a better return of goals.

A Maroons FC academy graduate, Mutyaba played for Kampala University, had a stint at the now defunct Sports Club Victoria University and featured for KCCA since 2014.

In his five seasons as a Kasasiro Boy, the midfielder won three league titles, two Uganda Cups and also guided the club to the group stages of both the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

He’ll start his life as a Red Eagle when Express visits second-placed URA FC on February 13 on Matchday six of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Wasswa Bbosa’s coached side are fifth on the 16-team log having gathered eight points from four-game with a game in hand, four points adrift of leaders UPDF FC who are on 12 points.
