MYDA relegation confirmed with defeat to BUL in Tororo

By Baron Kironde

Tororo based MYDA FC have been relegated to the FUFA Big League (FBL) after just one season in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL).

The UPL debutants suffered a heavy 6-1 loss to Jinja side BUL FC at the King George IV Memorial Stadium in Tororo.

Bul FC has completed a double against MYDA to assert superiority over their Eastern region counterparts after winning the reverse fixture 4-1 in Jinja.

Joseph Semujju twice, Simon Peter Oketch, Musa Esenu and second-half substitutes Ibrahim Mugulusi and Deogracious Ojok all scored to humiliate MYDA at home as Rashid Mpata got the single goal for her hosts.

MYDA’s fate is now sealed. Even with three more games to go, the Tuesday evening result in Tororo has ascertained that the Flying Eagles will be playing in the second division (FBL) next season.

The Flying Eagles have crushed and now join fellow debutants Kitara on the already relegated list. After 26 games, MYDA has just managed three wins, five draws and suffered 18 losses.

Following such a string of poor results, MYDA is languishing in the red zone, only a point and a position above bottom-placed fellow debutants Kitara, who have played a game less.

In the game played Tuesday evening, Semujju almost put BUL ahead as early as the fifth minute, but his effort missed the target by a few inches.

After 20 minutes, MYDA’s goalkeeper Andrew Ssekandi kept out Musa Esenu’s close-range tap-in to keep the score goalless.

Three minutes later, Semujju’s efforts finally paid off as he slotted home past Sekandi to put BUL ahead.

In the 40th minute, Oketch got the second to put BUL in a comfortable 2-0 lead. Ssemujju scored his second goal on the day and BUL’s third a minute before halftime.

In quick response, Rashid Mpaata pulled one back before half time but it was only enough for a consolation.

Less than ten minutes after the restart, Esenu made it four for BUL shortly before Oketch and Semujju paved way for Mugulusi and Ojok respectively.

Fifteen minutes after coming on, Mugulusi scored his first and BUL’s fifth for the day.

With only ten minutes to go, Ojok scored last in the game. He stepped up to convert from the spot to make it six for BUL and only one MYDA.
