Derrick Ndahiro’s third goal of the season and Muhammad Ssenoga’s strike proved decisive as SC Villa edged MYDA 2-1 at the King George IV Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The Jogoo who limped to a slender 1-0 victory over their hosts earlier in the season took the lead inside five minutes through Ssenoga who pounced at the far post following a goal mouth struggle.

The forward who was making his 10th appearance of the season scored his second goal for the club since opening the score against Police in March.

Despite falling behind, MYDA saw more dominance of the ball throughout the opening 25 minutes but lacked the cutting edge.

At the half-hour mark, Villa nearly doubled their effort but goalkeeper Andrew Ssekandi pulled off an impressive double save to first deny Nicholas Kabonge before recovering well to thwart Francis Olaki’s rebound.

With half time looming, Anna Akol awarded the home side a penalty for a shove on Ibrahim Nsimbe by defender Fred Agandu.

Nsimbe stepped up for the penalty but blazed his effort way over the cross bar.

The visitors doubled their lead at the stroke of half time through a cool finish from Ndahiro. The defender slotted into the bottom corner from Kabonge’s assist.

Amos Kirya’s sumptuous shot from inside the penalty area after 76 minutes, his first for the season reduced the deficit for MYDA who then brought on Peter Mutebi and Hussein Saleh.

The home side pressed on for an equalizer as the game drew to a close but Villa managed to hold on for victory.

The victory lifted to Villa temporarily into fourth on 28 points, while it compelled MYDA to their 12th defeat of the season who continue to dwell inside the bottom three with six points from 16 games.

Both sides now turn their attention to the Uganda Cup, MYDA visit 2019 winners and holders Proline FC while Villa entertain Ndejje University in Bombo at the Round of 32.
