Ochan to prioritise steering younger goalkeepers at KCCA

Unlike earlier spells in 2008-2009 and 2015-2018, Ochan comes with loads of experience this time around, amassed from his most recent adventures in Zambia and Kenya with Kabwe Warriors and AFC Leopards respectively.

For a third time in his marvellous career, incredibly talented custodian Benjamin Ochan has taken the KCCA FC route. He was unveiled on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Lugogo to further stamp his bond with the club of his life.

Unlike earlier spells in 2008-2009 and 2015-2018, Ochan comes with loads of experience this time around, amassed from his most recent adventures in Zambia and Kenya with Kabwe Warriors and AFC Leopards respectively.

“This is my team and my home, I have been here as a teenager, won trophies here and I believe I can win a few more,” he started with absolute buoyancy.

In his second stint at Lugogo between 2015-2019, Ochan guided the ‘Kasasiro boys’ to two Uganda Super League(Premier League) trophies (2015-2016 and 2016-2017), not forgetting the 2017 Uganda Cup.

The 31-year old hopes to use some of his expertise in the business to help guide, build and nurture the current breed of shot-stoppers at his boyhood club.

“I bring experience to the team because as you are aware, there are exciting goalkeepers here and talented too who just need a bit of guidance,” he stated to the club media team.

“Of course, it will come with its own pressure especially because I am the most senior in the team but I will handle that,” he calmly and confidently added.

This, he says after the club let go of ‘one of their own (Hassan Matovu) who joined Solitilo Bright Stars less than ten days ago. The current crop includes Ali Mwirusi and newly-signed Derrick Ochan, all of whom are relatively young.

The former SC Villa(2011-2012) player also highlighted his ambitions and what the team hopes to achieve in the incoming 2021/22 campaign.

“For starters, one of my goals is to try and win something, maybe the league and help the team going back to the continent,” he made mention.

“Our fans should expect beautiful football because this is what KCCA has always been known for and I believe, the manager (Morley Byekwaso) brought me back, because I am good at beautiful football,” he cheekily bragged.

The Entebbe-born lad has also previously featured for the now-vanished Victoria University SC during the 2013/14 season and a short stint at South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtics in 2010.

Ochan joins other new signings at the club which include defensive players like Yassar Mugerwa, Brian Majwega, Brian Kayanja, Emmanuel Wasswa and Godfrey Wasswa.

The signing spree has also attracted other players like Usama Arafat, Innocent Wafula (right back), Rogers Mato (attacker) and Derrick Ochan.

The club also elevated youngsters Elvis Mwanje and Juma Ibrahim from the Junior to the senior team ahead of the forthcoming season.
