Uganda Cranes defender Joseph Ochaya has tipped Vipers Sports Club to overcome TP Mazambe in the first round of the 2022/2023 CAF Champions League tie next month.
Ochaya featured for TP Mazembe between 2018 until this window when he joined Arab Contractors in Egypt and he believes his former paymasters are not a threat anymore.
“Vipers can, if they believe in themselves,” Ochaya told Football256 before adding.
“They just have to come with the right mentality and attitude because that is the only way to overcome intimidation in such competitions.”
“Mazembe used to be strong, but not anymore, they are weakened in so many areas and the playing staff has been affected greatly,” Ochaya added.
Vipers defeated Olympic De Bangui 4-0 on aggregate in the preliminary round while Mazembe and six other teams got byes into the first round.
“That is because of their history in the competition, but you can’t say they are at the same level with teams like Sundowns, Al Ahly, Zamalek or even Simba and Yanga in Tanzania, Ochaya noted.
Vipers are desperate to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Champions League for the first time in their history.
And they can achieve the feat if they can defeat Mazembe on aggregate, the first leg will be played on October 8th at Kitende while the return leg will be played seven days later.
