The president of the Confederation of African Football, CAF Ahmad Ahmad has announced that the 2020 CAF Awards have been cancelled, Kick442.com can report.
CAF took the decision during its Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, as announced by the Malagasy.
“Good afternoon to everyone and welcome to this press conference. I am particularly thinking about those whose families have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.”
“We meet today from a distance. The last time we met was to celebrate the prestigious CAF Awards. Unfortunately, the next edition has been cancelled,” President Ahmad revealed.
The cancellation means Asisat Oshoala and Sadio Mane who won the Elite Men’s and Women’s Awards for 2019 earlier this year will stay on the throne for a little longer.
The decision is one of many decisions that the highest football institution in Africa has taken this Tuesday including postponement of the 2021 AFCON tournament to 2022 and cancellation of the 2020 Women’s competition.
Multiple football events on the continent have been perturbed since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic on the African continent in March this year.
