Uganda Premier League Champions have completed the signing of Nigerian forward, Abubakar Lawal on a two-year contract.
He not only becomes the Venoms’ seventh signing but also their third foreign acquisition in the ongoing transfer window.
“I feel happy and at home. They have shown me love ever since l arrived here,” Lawal noted in his interview with the club media.
“I’m here to give my best. I know the club hasn’t been in the CAF Champions League group stages. So, am here to help and fight to make that dream come true.”
The forward joins the Congolese duo of goalkeeper Alfred Macumu Mudekereza and defensive midfielder Olivier Omadjondo Osomba.
The 26-year-old striker plied his trade at Rwandese kingpins AS Kigali in the 2021/22 campaign where he spent two years.
Besides guiding them to the Peace Cup in his final match of the season, he scored eight goals and assisted ten times across all competitions.
Aside from the Rwandan outfit, the fleet-footed forward has previously played in the Nigerian Premier League with Kano Pillars FC, Wikki Tourists FC, and Nasarawa United.
He is the latest buy-after defender Isa Mubiru, midfielder Marvin Joseph Youngman, right-back Ashraf Mandela and winger Abdu Lumala plus the aforementioned duo.
Lawal’s addition comes as fuel to reports of the departure of Cesar Manzoki with Tanzanian giants Simba SC hugely interested in securing his services. Many view the Nigerian as his natural replacement.
