Morley Byekwaso suffered the first defeat of his KCCA FC tenure as his side suffered a 2-0 defeat against URA at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje.
The Kasasiro Boys endured a poor evening as second half goals from Joachim Ojera and Shafik Kagimu ensured that URA completed the double over their rivals.
It was an evenly matched opening 45 minutes with either side drawing men behind the ball to deny their opponents space in behind, while also keeping alert to block any attempts.
KCCA saw more of the ball for the opening 10 minutes but it is URA who had the first sniff at goal, Joachim Ojera’s cut back finding captain Shafik Kagimu who blazed his effort over the cross bar.
Kagimu later linked up with Ojera with his threaded pass through KCCA’s backline picking up the latter but his snap shot was straight at Lukwago at the near post.
The visitor’s best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to Denis Iguma but his side footed volley was way over the target before KCCA coach Morley Byekwaso turned to his bench calling on Bright Anukani to replace the inefficient Moses Aliro.
There were further changes from Byekwaso at the start of the second half, Hassan Musana and Charles Lwanga came on for Ashraf Mugume and Sam Ssenyonjo respectively.
His opposite number Sam Ssimbwa replied by throwing on another striker, Cromwell Rowothomio replacing Ibrahim Dada.
The hosts took the lead in the game in the 54th minute, Ojera beating Musana to Brian Majwega’s deep cross to head home his first goal of the season.
Kagimu doubled the Tax Collectors’ lead with a collectors goal from a swift counter attack that allowed Mukwala to tee him up to slot into the bottom corner.
URA continued on the front foot with Rwothomio blasting inches over the cross bar while Mukwala placed his shot just wide of the upright after sitting down the whole KCCA backline.
Ssimbwa’s men continued to keep close tabs on joint leaders Vipers SC on 36 points; Vipers’ 4-0 victory over Busoga United on the day ensured they stay top on goal difference.
KCCA on the other hand stay fourth on the log as they see the gap behind the leaders now open up to nine points with 13 games to go.
KCCA play rivals SC Villa in the Kampala derby on Sunday while URA host BUL Bidco FC on Friday.
