Ittihad of Alexandria president Mohamed Moselhy is concerned about the disappearance of players Emmanuel Okwi and Romario Williams who he claims fled the club without notifying the board.
According to the Egyptian online portal King Fut, Moselhy’s statement came after Ittihad’s important 2-1 victory over Ismaily in their pursuit for a spot among the top four in the Egyptian Premier League.
“We are suffering many absences that are affecting the team, some are due to injury and others are for multiple different reasons,” Moselhy said.
“The foreign players haven’t returned back yet. We have filed an official complaint against Romario Williams, and Emmanuel Okwi who fled after joining their national teams,” he added.
The duo last featured for Ittihad on May 28th in Ittihad’s 2-0 away loss to Aswan. Williams had joined Ittihad earlier this season from Miami FC, scoring five goals in 23 appearances, while Okwi netted three in 17.
However, this website understands that Okwi’s two year contract at Ittihad of Alexandria expired on June 30th, 2021 having joined the club in August 2019 from Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
Okwi, 28 captained the Cranes in their 3-2 loss to South Africa on June 10th in Johannesburg, in a game he assisted Ibrahim Orit’s opener for Uganda.
The Alexandrian team are currently fourth, only two points behind Al Masry, with 41 points from 28 games, the team achieved 11 victories, had eight ties, and suffered nine losses.
