Onduparaka coach Vialli Bainomugisha says the club need to harness the best from a crucial period in the season which starts with a tie against Busoga United at the Aba Bet Green Light Stadium on Friday.

Onduparaka are keeping close chase of the early pace setters in the league after collecting eight points from their first five games of the season.

Bainomugisha who is in charge of his first season at the club has warned that from now, there is little margin for error if the team is to try and achieve its objective of a top four finish. However, first they need to think of their immediate task tomorrow.

“It is a crucial moment for everyone and an important period of the season,” he told Football256.

“We need to keep getting the points on board because we have our own objective to achieve, and tomorrow is our chance to try and build on that.”

“It won’t be easy (against Busoga) but I think the players especially the new lads now have a picture of what the top league is all about.”

“The start was tough for some of them, but after the five games, we do have a good understanding of what lies beneath every individual and we have also used the break to find new dynamics and build relationships within the team,” he added,

Busoga United’s game precedes fixtures against league leaders UPDF FC, Kyetume, Police FC and champions Vipers SC – teams which currently occupy the top seven.

According to Bainomugisha, if they can get the results over such opposition, it will only help build on the momentum they have already gathered thus far.

“I think it is fair to say that we drew mixed feelings from our opening five games of the season,” Bainomugisha stated.

“There were some bad results but we still managed to get a couple of great results. We won two games, drew two either side of that defeat to KCCA which I think gives a promising picture of our performance so far.”

“Remember we came into the season with a lot of changes within the group, we had to assemble almost a new team for the season, and of course the pandemic presented its own challenge.”

“I also joined deep into the team’s preparations and with a whirlwind of events around the club, it was tough so I think it is safe to say that we are happy with the direction we are taking,” he explained.

Onduparaka failed to win any of their opening two games, drawing at home to Express on the opening day before succumbing to an 8-0 thumping at the hands of KCCA FC.

But they recovered well to collect seven of the nine available in their next three games, winning against Kitara and MYDA while also playing to a 1-1 draw to Wakiso.

The Caterpillars could go second if they pick up all three points against the Ankole Lions on Tuesday and neither Police who play Kyetume or KCCA fail to win their games.
