It has been indicated that West Nile rivals Onduparaka and Arua Hill SC will share the same stadium in the 2022/23 Uganda Premier League season.

Arua Hill’s Barifa Stadium did not meet the FUFA standards after inspection and according to the fixtures released on Thursday, they will host their games from the Greenlight Stadium – home to Onduparaka.

However, the Caterpillars are uncomfortable with the decision of sharing a stadium with the Leopards.

“On 1st September 2022 the fixtures of the 2022/23 season were released,” stated the statement released by the club on Friday.

“The home ground of Onduparaka was indicated as Bombo Military grounds while our known home Greenlight stadium was indicated as the home for Arua Hill.”

“There is no record of any request or agreement between Onduparaka and Arua Hill to the effect that the latter acquired rights to use Greenlight Stadium.”

Meanwhile, Onduparaka will host its first five games in at the Military Barrack in Bombo as a sanction for hooliganism by their fans in the home game against Arua Hill last season.

“Onduparaka received a ruling of the FUFA Disciplinary Panel on 14th June 2022 in a case filed by Arua Hill.”

“It was ruled that among others the club will play five home games in a neutral territory outside the West Nile province.”

“Upon receipt of the judgment, the club exercised its right to appeal on 17th June 2022 which right was granted and the appeal was heard on 23rd August 2022 at FUFA House Mengo.”

“The ruling of the Appeals Committee has until the date of this statement not been received,” the statement noted.

“As has been the practice, stadiums of all teams intending to participate in the UPL are inspected.

“The list of approved or unapproved stadiums is published with a notice given to clubs with unapproved stadiums to provide alternative stadiums.”

“It is usually in form of a written agreement. We were rather appalled that the process did not happen and neither did we submit an alternative stadium (pending the decision of the committee).”

When the season starts on September 30, Arua Hill’s first game of the season will be played at Greenlight on matchday two against KCCA while Onduparaka will be away to URA on matchday one.

“The decision to release fixtures and dedicating grounds of play for two clubs in a legal contestation can be construed.”

“Meaning the decision to have Onduparaka play five games away is meant to facilitate Arua Hill use Greenlight, which if true is rather unfortunate,” the statement further noted.

After hosting the first five games in Bombo, the Caterpillar will return home and host Maroons FC at Green Light on matchday 13.

“Despite the urgency to release the fixtures, the Federation had an option to indicate ‘To be communicated’ (TBC) for teams that have pending obligations about their fields of play.”

“The decision has caused unrest and distress amongst our fans and the stakeholders hence our decision to release this statement to offer clarity on the current status.”

“Whereas we urge our fans to remain calm as we pursue matters relating to our participation in the 2022/23 season, we request the Federation respects the autonomy of football clubs.”

“It should present itself as the foundation of fairness as the rules of the game dictate. We hope that urgent steps will be taken to rectify these flaws to ensure harmony,” the statement ended.

The development of both Onduparaka and Arua Hills sharing the same Stadium means that the home and away ties between the two sides will be hosted at Green Light.

Arua Hill will host the first leg on matchday 10 before the two rivals meet again for the second leg on matchday 25 with Onduparaka as host.
