Former Uganda Cranes defender Hassan Wasswa Mawanda has named an eleven-man strong squad of former teammates that would feature for him in case he is ever accorded a testimonial.
The defender’s retirement from Cranes duty after 13 years was received with mixed feelings given the circumstances around his final days with the national team.
But regardless, different stakeholders of the game wished Wasswa an amicable time in retirement.
There was even a promise of a testimonial match to honour the defender’s service while in national colours from Ugandan football’s governing body FUFA.
And while he did not divulge much into details of when and where his promised testimonial would happen, Wasswa disclosed that he had a picture of what his XI would look like should the day ever come.
Former Cranes teammate and captain Dennis Onyango who also announced his retirement days after Wasswa, was the obvious selection in goal for the former KCCA, Vipers and SC Villa defender.
At right back, Wasswa zeroed at former SC Villa and URA FC defender Simeon Masaba with whom they shared a bunch of his 75 national caps while Ex-Gor Mahia and Kaizer Chiefs defender Godfrey Walusimbi comes in at left back.
American based defender Henry Kalungi and former SC Villa teammate Derrick Walulya were the chosen pair to feature in central defence.
Meanwhille, Tony Mawejje with whom they formed a formidable partnership as Uganda qualified for a first Africa Cup of Nations finals tournament in 2017 was chosen to play alongside Owen Kasule and Moses Oloya in midfield.
In a three-man attack, veteran Kyetume FC lethal striker Robert Sentongo, Emmanuel Okwi feature alongside who is considered fitter between Vincent Kayizzi and Dan Wagaluka.
