Uganda Cranes skipper Denis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns will have little time to reminisce over their continental short comings as focus shifts to the Absa Premiership on Wednesday evening away to Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

Pitso Mosimane’s charges who have two games in hand have the best opportunity to close Kaizer Cheifs’ seven-points gap on top of the log to four with a victory in the mother city.

The return of skipper Hlompho Kekana, Gaston Sirino, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Mousa Lebusa from suspension couldn’t have come at a better time for Sundowns.

The quartet got booked rather dramatically for time-wasting against Bloemfontein Celtic, the four sat out the side’s 2-0 Nedbank cup win over VUT and are now available for selection.

The importance of a victory is known by Pitso Mosimane who was in the dugout when the two sides last met in the first round at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Ryan Moon opened the scoring for the visitors before Themba Zwane leveled matters from 12 yards and the Brazilians wrapped it up with two late goals from youngsters Sphelele Mkhulise and Matlala Keletso Makgalwa.

Sundowns vice-captain Denis Onyango missed the game but will be expected to start in goal for Pitso’s charges. A win for second-placed Sundowns will take them to 44 points, four behind table leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
