Following the conclusion of the nomination process, all is set for the Best of the Decade Awards in the Pepsi University Football League.
As the UFL celebrates 10 years, the outstanding performers within that period shall be rewarded at a ceremony to be held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Wednesday, December 7th.
“It has been an exciting 10 year journey for the University Football League and as we come together to celebrate the achievements of the last 10 years, we are also looking forward to growing to the next level.”
“I congratulate all those who were nominated and we look forward to announcing the winners on Wednesday,” Association of Uganda University Sports President Kabenge Peninah said ahead of the awards gala.
For the past fortnight, the nomination process has been ongoing involving different stakeholders, who have been closely following the UFL for the last decade including journalists.
“We had several talented people who were nominated for these UFL Best of the Decade Awards and it was a very difficult process to narrow it down to the top three nominees in each category but we managed to zero down to these that have been listed,” University Football League Chairman, Vincent Kisenyi noted.
Ten categories shall be rewarded including; Player of the Decade, Coach of the Decade, Team of the Decade, and Best XI of the Decade.
Others are; Top Scorer of the Decade, Sports Tutor of the Decade, Goalkeeper of the Decade, Defender of the Decade, Midfielder of the Decade, and Forward of the Decade.
“When we started the University Football League in 2012 one of the key objectives was the unearthing of football talents within our universities. The fact that we were spoilt for choice in selecting the UFL Best of the Decade is evidence that indeed this has been achieved,”
Red Rhino’s Obal Atubo stated.
In the nine categories, three personalities/teams have been nominated besides the Best XI of the Decade. In the latter category, the selected players will be revealed at the ceremony.
