St. Lawrence University picked up a slim 1-0 win over Kampala University in the first leg of the 2022 Pepsi University Football League quarterfinals at Kibuli on Thursday.
Fahad Aniko was the player on target for the all-important goal of the game in the 87th minute.
It is the host KU that was in control of the game in the first stanza but could not make any of their many chances created count.
The visitors came back from the break recharged and dominated the game enjoying the lion’s share of possession but were as well wasteful until the latter stages of the game.
The result at Kibuli on Thursday means that SLAU will come into the second leg of this quarterfinal with the advantage and on the verge of storming the semifinals.
The 2019 finalists will be hoping not to falter as they did in 2018 when the two sides met in the semifinals.
Back then SLAU again won the first leg 2-1 on road before losing by the same scoreline at home and were eliminated 5-6 on penalties.
Meanwhile, Bugema University will host Uganda Martyrs University in the next quarterfinal encounter on Tuesday, September 20.
