Makerere University Business School (MUBS) assistant coach Hassan Issa has put his side’s elimination from the Pepsi University Football League to defensive errors.
MUBS lost 3-0 to St. Lawrence University in the second leg of the semifinals in their Nakawa territory on Tuesday for the former to advance to the final 5-1 on aggregate, having won the first leg 2-1 in Kavule last week.
“We had a game plan for this second leg but unfortunately it did not work because we made errors in defence which cost us,” Issa told the media after the game.
“In the final third we tried to create opportunities but failed to utilize them which also affected us.”
“But this is football and we have learnt a lot and we shall try to recruit more good players and return stronger next season,” he added.
MUBS captain Herbert Abima scored in his net while the other two goals were scored by Michael Kayongo and Bruno Bunyaga.
MUBS will have to wait for another season to add to their two UFL titles, they last played in the final in 2017 when they lost 2-0 to Uganda Martyrs University (UMU).
The latter will be playing their first final since then when they face the last edition’s losing finalists St. Lawrence on Saturday, November 12th.
On the same day, MUBS will play against last season’s champions Uganda Christian University in the third and fourth-place playoff final.
UCU lost 5-4 to UMU in the shootouts following a 1-1 draw on aggregate in the other semifinal.
