Pepsi UFL: MUBS guaranteed Group B top spot with a game to spare

By Brian Aheebwa

Makerere University Business School’s perfect run in the 2022 Pepsi University Football League continued with a 1-0 away win over Nkumba University on Thursday.

Nasser Ssegabwe’s fourth-minute goal was enough to guarantee MUBS the top spot in Group B.

After five games, the Nakawa-based institution has gathered maximum points, 15, and through to the next stage as Group B leader.

“I am thrilled by the performance of my players and it is that exciting that we have beaten Nkumba twice this season it had never happened before,” MUB’s head coach Charles Ayiekoh said after the game.

“The confidence of the team after coming from the All Africa Games in Nairobi was evident because we have also qualified to represent at the World stage.”

“We have a depth which is also a plus to us because no one would no that we lack six first-team players.”

“Every player that gets a chance fights hard to showcase a good performance and today I have been impressed so much with Ssegabwe and I think he is one of the best wingers in the UFL,” he noted.

In the corresponding fixture that was played in Nakawa in April, MUBS edged Nkumba by the same scoreline.

Second-placed Nkumba who are on nine points can not catch up with MUBS’ point tally even if the latter loses the final group stage game with the former winning on the other hand.

Group B duo of Kisubi University, Muni University, and another duo of Group A, Victoria University, and the International University of East Africa are the four teams that have so far bowed out of this year’s UFL.
