Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) ejected holders Uganda Christian University (UCU) 5-4 on penalties to reach the final of the 2022 Pepsi University Football League.
It will be the first time that UMU will be playing in the final of the competition since 2017 when they won their only UFL trophy.
UCU won the first leg of this semifinal tie 1-0 in Mukono last week before losing by the same scoreline to UMU courtesy of Sunny Kaija’s 67th-minute goal in the second leg played in Nkozi on Thursday.
The 1-1 stalemate on aggregate forced the encounter to go into the shootouts and it is the hosts that came out on top 5-4.
In the final on November 12th, UMU awaits the winners between St. Lawrence University and Makerere University Business School who will meet again next week on Tuesday, November 1 at Nakawa for the second leg of the other semifinal.
SLAU edged MUBS 2-1 when the two sides faced off on Tuesday this week in the first leg played at Kavule.
