It might be just the start of the 2019/2020 StarTimes Uganda Premier but a start SC Villa were hoping to avoid as a way of avoiding last season’s poor start.
The 16-time league champions lost 1-0 to Kyetume on Thursday evening at Namboole Stadium in tie watched by a decent crowd from both sets of players.
Cephas Kambugu scored the all-important goal in the 21st minutes after SC Villa defence and goalkeeper Said Keni failed to deal with a Robert Ssentogo goal attempt.
“Not the way we wanted to start the league but we have to accept the outcome go back and plan better for the next game,” SC Villa’s head coach Edward Kaziba told www.football-256.com.
“We are in a building process, and it’s not going to be easy, the players will need time to get to know each other, find the right combinations and rhythm before we can be able to compete again, but we shall get there,” he added.
Kyetume matched Villa pound for pound, a sign that they mean business, head coach George Best Nsimbe hopes they don’t get carried away because the marathon has just started.
“It’s the perfect way to start a new life in a new league and we just want to build on that, but we are not getting carried away, we shall take it one game at a time,” Nsimbe added.
The big question though is how far can Kyetume go and if SC Villa will be able to avoid the poor run that had them flirt with relegation for the better part of last season.
