The largest percentage of the income generating activities have been brought to a standstill due to the rapid spread of the pandemic leaving a large number of people out of their jobs at least for now.

Since football also calls for social gathering, it’s one of the activities affected by the government measures imposed to curb the spread of the virus, with all football activities suspended until further notice.

“Athletes should now use their savings to support themselves,” State Minister for Sports Hamson Obua was quoted by New Vision.

“Since at the moment, all the money has been channeled to fight the Coronavirus.”

“So, I cannot promise them anything, since if the government was to do that even other sectors would ask for support to bail them out,” the minister added.

For now, some of the football clubs here in Uganda can afford to pay their employees but for how long can they do that is the biggest question.

“Our players shouldn’t be bothered about missing out on their salaries because we can afford paying them at least for now as we continue praying that the situation goes back to normal in the shortest time possible,” Express FC CEO Hamza Jjunju told Sanyuka TV.

How long will the Coronavirus pandemic stay? no one surely knows but everyone’s prayer would be it goes away very soon because if its effects have with great regret been felt in this short period it has stayed.

And to the game of football, where nearly everything survives around funds generated from gate collections and selling club merchandise like jerseys among others, the worry should be huge.
