The Uganda Cubs have the best opportunity to create history by becoming the first team from Uganda to ever qualify for a football world cup, the U17 FIFA world cup which will take place in Brazil later this year.
The contingent which has already touched base in Dar-Es-salaam have a task for finishing as one of the top two teams from group A which has the hosts Tanzania, African giants Nigeria and Angola. Group B has Guinea, Cameroon, Morocco and Senegal with the top two advancing.
The Cubs coach Samuel Paa Kwesi Fabin is however optimistic that the motivation is there in the team.
“It’s common knowledge when you gather children at the U17 level and move them to another country it gives them enough energy to work hard due to the excitement. Since we came for the Kenya camp the boys have been impressive” Kwesi told the FUFA website.
The Ghanaian also showered praise his assistant Jackson Magera who has been in charge of the team since they started reaerations for the finals
‘I think they are doing well, fortunately; we have an able assistant who did a good job; therefore, we are just adding onto what has been done already and so far, it’s been good.
According FUFA, the team is expected to carry out a mandatory MRI test on Thursday 11th April before their first fixture against Angola on Sunday.
