Police FC managed to edge URA FC 2-1 at the Arena of Visions grounds in Ndejje in one of two StarTimes Uganda Premier League games played on Friday evening.

Kakooza Derrick opened the scoring for the Cops 10 minutes into the game, but 12 minutes later former Cops midfielder Hassan Kalega levelled matters for the tax collectors sending both teams into the break on equal terms.

After recess, the Cops seemed to step it up, shot-stopper Davis Mutebi who saved Daniel Isiagi’s penalty in the first half was brave on several occasions to keep his side in the game, a performance that earned him the man of the match accolade.

With about 11 minutes left, winger Ben Ocen doubled Police’s lead taking his goal tally this season to 12.

Police FC coach Abdallah Mubiru was thankful to God and hoped the victory ignites consistency in the final five games of the season.

“We thank Allah, the most graceful and merciful for the victory, it was a very hard game of course against hard opponents,” Mubiru said after the game.

“They had developed some confidence at their home ground because they’d not lost a game at home. We knew it but sincerely it’s been God who delivered us the victory,” he added.

The Uganda Cranes assistant coach also revealed that the team is hoping to win at least three of the remaining five fixtures as they face a desperate fight to keep their league status intact.

“We hope to build around this success, I hope we get a rhythm after this win. We still have five games but I hope we win at least three it’s not a big task and we hope to accomplish it otherwise I thank my players for a job well done,” Mubiru revealed.

The win takes Police FC to 25 points in 13th position, a point above 14th placed Maroons and three ahead of the two bottom sides in Proline FC and Tooro United respectively.
