Police FC and KCCA FC played out to a goalless stalemate at the MTN Omondi Stadium as the game billed as a battle for fourth failed to find a finish.
Days after both teams’ title hopes were effectively clashed by respective defeats, both sides sought a way to reassert their heavy weight credentials by perhaps gaining outright advantage in the battle for fourth place in the starTimes uganda Premier League.
Police coach Abdallah Mubiru described the game as a chance to have a truer test of their mental strength after a string of defeats, but their play was controlled in a cagey start.
Morley Byekwaso’s side offered a glimpse of their resillience and threat on the counter attack, but Sadat Anaku and Herbert Achai were indecisive in crucial moments.
The game soon decended into a midfield battle, Frank Zaga Tumeesigye suffocated out of any space by Gift Ali and Denis Iguma before he was withdrawn two minutes to the end of the first half.
At the stroke of half time, Brian Muluuli was denied by Lukwago from inside the area while Gift Ali pulled his shirt over his head after shooting wide from Achai’s cut back after clever play down the left.
Both teams posses some of the most potent frontlines in the league but the game maintained a laboured feel for much of the second half. Peter Magambo placing a couple of headers from set plays over the cross bar.
Police and KCCA stay level on 38 points, but KCCA are fourth as they hold a better goal difference.
Police face a trip to the Arena of Visions in Ndejje against table toppers URA FC on Saturday while KCCA are at home against relegation strugglers Kyetume FC.
