Police FC are faced with a very intriguing and yet busy period ahead of them as the January transfer window draws to a close.

Football256 understands that the Cops have entered into late talks over a potential free transfer for former Vipers SC midfielder Deus Bukenya.

Abdallah Mubiru’s side needs to make crucial additions in midfield, despite new signings Tony Mawejje and Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye functioning well in their opening five games of the season.

But the pair have also suffered from consistent injury problems which could also rule them out for the resumption of the league in February.

And as such, the club is working around the clock to make a couple of impact deals, and Bukenya who is available on a free after parting ways with Botswana Premier League side Prisons XI.

Sources revealed to Football256, that the midfielder who can also play as a defender was at the club’s headquarters in Kibuli and discussions over a potential move were held.

It is not yet known to what extent the talks were, but the club is said to be open to a move for Bukenya, on an initial one year contract.

There is also a possibility of pursuit at the end of the season, although information privy to this website reveals that the Cops are not as drawn to taking that route.

Mubiru is understood to maintain a close relationship with Bukenya since working together when the former was the head coach at Vipers SC in 2016.

Mubiru named Bukenya in almost all his line ups utilising him at both holding midfield and central defence, and always viewed him as a crucial member of his squad before he was sacked.

He also made a bid to sign Bukenya for the Cops on loan in 2017 before the deal was called off.

Still only 27, a January arrival would make sense to add an experienced brain as an alternative to the Police midfield pack which looks shallow following injuries to Mawejje and Zaga.
