This is what is told to students all over the world and football players yet it doesn’t seem to be true to coaches.

Many of us have qualified as coaches but don’t want to practice for various reasons. Many want to coach teams that pay well and have the glitter and glamor.

But how do you grow as a coach when you don’t practice?  Many of us sit and campaign for positions in big clubs to the detriment of others. This includes mudslinging, destroying the characters and reputations of other coaches.

The practice part is very vital in the coaching vocation because it’s the only way we learn and improve. The mistakes made during practice and matches are the measures of knowledge attained.

Coaches who have managed in the first division which is the fourth tier of Ugandan football learn more than meets the ordinary eye.

Coaches here are the managers, doctors, kits men, and to an extent drivers of their teams. This calls for a lot of ingenuity, patience, and man-management skills.

This experience gained at this level is the one that can propel coaches to great heights.  The most successful coaches as in actual performance have been in the first division and many times in schools.

Reason being that they have been schooled in subjects that cannot be taught in any coaching course.

So, when the armchair coaches wait for high paying jobs, they are missing out on valuable lessons that could have made them better than the publicity they crave.

This also hurts the growth of the game in the country, because the coach has not gained enough knowledge through practice to transfer.
