Wakiso Gaints’ 2-0 victory over Onduparaka FC was overshadowed by events before the match that involved denying the latter access to the venue.

On charges of lacking face masks, Wakiso Giants locked out the boys from West Nile, something that the Caterpillars have since refuted.

On their social media accounts, with pictures of their players getting dressed in the neighboring garden, the away team was so bitter, accusing the Purple Sharks of making it an ugly routine welcome.

“For the second season running, the same kind of arrival we receive from the ‘Giants’… We (are) getting used ‘heneways’ (anyway),” read the post off their official Facebook page.

It’s however believed that the home side later allowed them access to the dressing rooms, albeit after wearing their face masks.

The football governing body, FUFA set guidelines for matchdays to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic as per the Ministry of Health; some of which included a mandatory face mask for everyone available for a given match

Wakiso Giants entered the game badly needing maximum points after picking up just one win in their last five. They did it in comfortable style with goals in either half.

Ivan Bogere opened the day’s account with his second in as many games, tapping home Frank Ssebuufu’s cross in the 22nd minute before Pius Kaggwa added a second after an hour.

The win was not only a morale booster but it also lifted them to six points above relegation on 19 points in their now seemingly familiar 13th position.

They make a trip to St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday, April 20, in a bid to further ensure survival.

The boys from Arua have however dropped to ninth on 24 points with a home encounter against struggling MYDA FC on Tuesday.
