Pressure mounts as UFL nears knockout stage

As the 2019 Pepsi University Football League nears the knockout stage, the pressure is already too much in some camps with fears that their teams may fail to make it through to the knockout stage.

In group D, Kampala University are on the blink of failing to make it through, the Ggaba based University lost 2-1 to Makerere University Business School at Nsambya on Thursday.

This left their chances of advancing to the knockout stage paralyzed. UCU and MUBS are now the joint leaders of Group D on eight points while KU is in third with only three points.

If KU is to stand any chance of qualifying to the knockout stage, they have to win their two remaining games against UCU at home and IUEA away then hope that either UCU or MUBS lose both their remaining games.

In group C, defending champions Kyambogo University seem enthusiastic for title defence as they lead the group with five points from three games.

Despite being docked two points and two goals due to indiscipline, it didn’t stop Kyambogo from winning twice and drawing once from their first-round games, their next game is away against Busitema on Sunday afternoon.

Kumi University is second in the group with four points, followed by Busitema with three points while KIU is on the bottom with only one point, all the four teams can make it to the knockout stage.

In group A, YMCA tops the log with six points and looks set for the knockout stage of the competition, second-placed Nkumba University with four points and third-placed Bugema with two points are still battling for another place in the group.

Bishop Stuart who are on the bottom of the table with just one point, the knockout stage seems beyond their reach.

In group B Uganda Martyrs University are top of the log with seven points and St. Lawrence University are second on five points looking ready for the knockout stage.

Third-placed IUIU are on two points, Gulu University have managed just one point and will have to double their efforts if they are to make it happen with three games remaining.
