Preview: KCCA coach Mutebi would rather have Mubiru around for their Clash against Police

By Shafic Kiyaga

Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA) play host to Police FC tomorrow in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.

The game promises to be a spectacle of good football, with both teams trying to dominate each other, laced with top notch tactical approach.

However, Police FC will be without head coach Abdallah Mubiru, who is away on national duty for a Cranes regional tour match in Katakwi. But Police will be under the guidance of former KCCA assistant John Luyinda.

Speaking to the press ahead of the tie, Mutebi who is bitter with the league secretariat for always postponing games, also revealed that he would rather have Mubiru around for the game instead of him being involved with the Cranes.

“It will be a good game, but I would rather want to have Police coach (Abdallah Mubiru) around. If I were the head coach, then I would not be with the Cranes, because McKinstry is in position to supervise that game alone.” Mutebi said.

KCCA were rampant in the corresponding fixture last season, scoring five in the opening 45 minutes, with the game finally ending 6-3. But the Cops were a very different entity all together in the second leg, and could have caused a huge upset, before both sides settled for a 1-all draw.

The champions are currently 11th on the log, but do have five games in hand, have scored 10 goals and conceded a joint league low six times in the seven games played so far this season.

The Cops are second from bottom, with just five points from 11 games. They have scored 10 goals and conceded a league high 20 goals so far.

KCCA will be without five key players, and this fixture was initially called off, but KCCA requested for the fixture to be upheld as they are confident the players they have can get the job done.

Muzamiru Mutyaba, Charles Lukwago, Kizza Mustafa, Revita John, and Kasozi Nicholas will not feature as they are away with the Cranes for a tour match.

Presenting the chance for the fringe players to have their chances in the first team. Third choice goalkeeper Mwirusi Ali could make the bench as Jamil Maliyamungu is expected to fill in for Lukwago.

Steven Sserwadda has fully recovered from an injury that ruled him out of the CAF Champions league tie in Algeria. Allan Okello and defender Samuel Kato did not make the Cranes squad and subsequently will be available for selection.

Julius Poloto has stepped up his recovery, but the game comes a bit early for him, while Saddam Juma and Jurua Hassan are completely ruled out of the game.

The Cops do not have any serious injury concerns, with Basani Saafi, Shakur Makeera ruled out. Samson Kigozi and Johnson Odong could make a return to the starting line-up.

Ben Ocen has scored five goals already for Police and together with Pius Kaggwa and Hood Kaweesa could start in attack. Yusuf Ssozi and Samuel Kayongo have been a consistent feature in midfield and should maintain their places.

Henry Katongole has recently patnered Sylvester Ssemakula and Joseph Sentume. It will be interesting who is the preferred choice on the day.

In the last 19 league games played between the two sides, KCCA has won thirteen times, Police FC has not won a game in the last 19 matches, while both teams have shared spoils six times.
