Preview: Kyetume make maiden trip to Green Light to visit Onduparaka

By Brian Aheebwa

The Green Light Stadium is one of the dreaded places to visit for a league game. Not only because of the distance but also because few have actually managed to breach past home side Onduparaka.

Newly promoted side Kyetume FC will be less-fancied to pick up maximum points over the home side when they face off in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Friday afternoon.

The caterpillars head coach Livingstone Mbabazi has recently bemoaned the financial crisis within the club, stating that his players are demoralized after going over four months without pay. And that seems to have rubbed off his players.

This will be the first ever league meeting between the two sides. Heading into the game the Onduparaka lie fourth on the log, with 20 points from the 12 games played so far. Kyetume are seventh, four points behind their hosts, and have played a game less.

Onduparaka have won just one of their last six games, the 3-0 victory over Tooro United a fortnight ago. A meagre return compared to just one loss in their opening six games.

The Greenlight fortress has already been breached this season, with URA picking up a 2-1 victory, while Vipers and BUL Bidco the top two side have only managed draws at the stadium.

They were never going to be title challengers, but they surely knew they needed to dig deeper if they were to uphold their top division status. George ‘Best’ Nsimbe’s side has broken a few hearts and looked by far a top division side already.

The slaughters have not necessarily looked convincing on the eye, but they have mastered the art of grinding out results even when the odds are against them. Apart from Tooro who they edged out 2-0, all their other victories have come via a one goal advantage.

They have already beat up on the divisions’ established sides like record champions SC Villa, Busoga United, Bright Stars, while they picked a draw against URA. They can surely believe that they can cause another upset in Arua.

Nsimbe has relied on the mixture of youth and experience, through veteran duo Vincent Kayizzi and Robert Ssentongo and youthful forwards Sharif Saaka and Cephus Kambugu.

Kirabira and Tahomera missed their game against Busoga, and are expected to return to the line up against Onduparaka.

Mbabazi will make do without Rajab Kakooza who is still recovering from a knee injury while left back Rashid Okocha misses through a suspension due to accumulated yellow cards.

Their attacking play has been complemented by a well marshalled defence consisting of Jonathan ‘Dante’ Mugabi, Benson Tahomera and goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa, Sande Steven and Deo Isejja. Former KCCA midfield stalwart Isaac Kirabira has also given them a calm presence in the middle.

Abdul Luswata and Ezra Bida may make a return to the side after recovering from respective injuries. Gaddafi Wahab, Ceaser Okhuti, Gibson Adinho should be in fine form for Onduparaka to break down the Kyetume defence.
