Onduparaka head coach Livingstone Mbabazi has downplayed his side’s title credentials, ahead of their StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter against second placed BUL Bidco at the Green Light Stadium, Arua.

The caterpillars currently lie third on the log, four points behind BUL and a further eight points behind leaders Vipers SC. Their recent run of form and finishes inside the top four suggests they have garnered enough experience to push for the title this season.

But Mbabazi who is in his second reign as head coach would rather focus on the more realistic target despite not being the imminent target of beating the drop, as he continues his rebuilding project.

“I think it should be on record that I have said that this season we are not fighting for a trophy but beating the drop,” Mbabazi told Football-256.

Onduparaka have lost four times already this season, the most of the top four sides but impressively they have picked up a league high six clean sheets in their opening 10 games.

Mbabazi’s side had to endure the embarrassment of being the first side to lose against Bright Stars, and they will need to dig deeper against their opponents tomorrow who have tasted defeat just twice this season.

On the flip side, Peter Onen’s boys have done themselves proud thus far with superb performances, winning seven of their opening 11 league games. However, a huge cloud of doubt still lingers against their credentials as genuine title contenders.

Onduparaka and BUL will meet for the seventh time in history, with the Caterpillars emerging victorious when the two sides last met in April this year. Amazingly the last three fixtures between these sides have all ended with a 1-0 scoreline.

Both sides are expected to make obvious changes due to conditions and routine. Onduparaka will be without Rajab Kakooza who is still recovering from a knee injury, Abdul Luswata is a doubt as he recovers from an infection.

The game seems to have come early for Ezra Bida as he continues rehabilitation from a minor injury he suffered from an accident. Okocha and Faizul are one match away from suspension due to accumulated yellow cards and could be rested.

Sadam Norman will have a chance to feature as his service will be required in the left fullback in the absence of Okocha. Onduparaka’s midfielder Jangeyambe Joel came in as a substitute in the game against Bright Stars in Njeru last week but might be a starter at the Greenlight Stadium.

Equally, Tabu Vitalis who of recent has lost the place in the starting XI might be entrusted to start ahead of Maliyangumu Julius so as to take advantage of early freekicks.

Meanwhile, Onduparaka’s all-time goal scorer Caeser Okhuti has suffered a goal drought recently, and could be relegated to the bench as Malish Jamal takes his spot upfront.

On the other side, Deogratius Ojok was not part of the travelling team to Arua. The forward is still recovering from a knee injury. Musa Esenu with three goals to his name is an able substitute.
