Action between Vipers and BUL last season at the St. Mary's stadium Kitende | Vipers media

Three months ago, no one would have predicted that Jinja based side BUL Bidco would be top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at this stage of the season.

But reality has since struck, with BUL currently leading the charge for the 2019/2020 league trophy. And the club is not ready to relinquish their grip, as top management have confirmed that they have doubled the winning bonus for players for any away win.

Previously at UGX 250,000, BUL FC players will receive UGX 500,000 each if they can get the better of Vipers SC in their own back yard at the St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.

BUL under Peter Onen have showed a lot of stability and growth, and many would believe their impressive run this season is because they play with the ‘we don’t have anything lose attitude’. But there is more than what meets the eye.

They have won six of their eight games so far this season, including a 3-0 humbling of Champions KCCA FC at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru. Not to mention the 1-0 win at the expense of Express at the Betway Mutesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

They have picked important wins in Fort Portal where they defeated Tooro United 2-1, and on two occasions visited the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium and defeated Police (2-0) and Wakiso Giants (1-0).

Currently, on 19 points, BUL have scored 12 goals and conceded just five goals this season.

If there is any side who have looked every inch as impressive as BUL, it’s their hosts tomorrow. Vipers are just two points behind the leaders albeit with a game in hand.

Still the only unbeaten side in the league, Vipers have scored 13 league goals this season, the most by any of the 16 teams this season. They have also conceded the least number of goals, four; joint lowest with SC Villa.

Vipers have won three of their last four league outings at Kitende against Express (3-0), Proline (1-0) and Tooro United 1-0, dropping points against Mbarara City in a two-all draw.

The Venoms are also on the longest unbeaten run in the league so far, as they have drawn just twice in their last 10 league games.

The Venoms also boast of the league’s leading goal scorer Fahad Bayo, with all his six goals coming at St. Mary’s, and it is such a challenge that BUL defence marshalled by skipper Denis Okot, Walter Ochora, Richard Matovu, and Jimmy Kulaba will come up against.

BUL have options in front of goal, through Robert Mukoghotya, Hamisi Tibita, Musa Esenu, Musa Walangalira, Charles Sebutinde who can bring significant problems for Vipers’ defenders.

The quartet is expected to ask Vipers’ backline of Halid Lwaliwa, Bashir Asiku, Paul Willa and Aziz Kayondo all the questions in what is expected is to be a tantalizing encounter.

In the last six seasons, BUL have only defeated Vipers once, the 2-1 in the second round of the 2013/2014 campaign.  How BUL conduct themselves at Kitende will solely depend on how Vipers respond to every move that they will employ.
