St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende will provide the stage for yet another classic block buster encounter as three time league champions Vipers SC host six time league champions Express FC, in the Star Times Uganda Premier League.

Both sides head into the fixture on quite a similar backdrop of form, after picking up back to back victories in each of their last two games. Express got the better of Kyetume after an emphatic 5-3 victory over Police.

Similarly, Vipers defeated Police on Wednesday 3-1, after narrowly scrapping past bottom side Proline FC at Kitende.

Express head coach George Ssimwogerere will be hoping for better this time round, after his side were disappointingly defeated 2-0 in the last game at Vipers, with the coach likening his side then to a 1.6 litre, saloon car racing against a high-performance Subaru in Vipers.

“We are ready, the boys are in good shape and the morale is high so we expect to have a good game.” Ssimwogerere told www.expressfc.co.ug.

But history suggests otherwise, as the red eagles have scored just one goal at Vipers since 2015, and were on the receiving end of a 5-0 thumping by their hosts in 2018.

Vipers are still the only unbeaten side in the league and will be buoyant heading into the game, but captain Halid Lwaliwa warned against complacense because they are the envy of every side in the division, and nothing will come easy for them.

“The league is getting tighter with each game; every team comes with an aim of picking results and we have to do everything right because it’s the only way we can win games. We have to show hunger and urgency and pick maximum points,” Lwaliwa told the clubs official website www.viperssc.co.ug.

The hosts will be without forward Allan Kayiwa who is away on national duty with the Uganda Cranes as they prepare fortheir international friendly against Ethiopia on Sunday.

Thankfully, they welcome back Innocent Wafula who has recovered from an episode of flu which ruled him out of the game against Police FC. But the Venoms will be without midfielder Brian Nkuubi who is still recovering from fever.

Muhamad Shabban still remains a doubt for the Venoms, as he still recovers from a long term injury.

Striker Fahad Bayo will hope he can get back on the scoring sheet after a quiet evening against Police, the striker has turned St. Mary’s into his fortress scoring three goals in his last two games at the stadium.

Dan Sserunkuuma has haunted Express since he left them for Vipers. The striker has scored five goals in the last two games against Express.

On the other hand, the red eagles will be without goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga who is out with a back injury, defenders Emmanuel Baffoe and Cyrus Kibande are also out with thigh and knee injuries.

Andrew Kiwanuka will require a late fitness test to ascertain his availability after suffering aniggly foot injury against Kyetume.

They welcome back goalie Tony Kyamera after recovering from a knock against Kyetume. Midfield duo Dennis Sserukwaya and Lawrence Kigonya are also available after serving their suspensions.

Express skipper Disan Galiwango has been the standout performer for them this season, chipping in with two goals, and topping the assist chats with five.

Frank Kalanda and Frank Ssenyondo have also been impressive for Ssimwogerere’s team with the pair scoring three goals each.
