French Ligue 1 side PSG are monitoring the situation of 28-year-old Cameroon defender Joel Djob Matip of Liverpool FC.
Kick442.com understands the French club is strongly considering him as replacement for Thiago Silva who is set to depart the club this summer.
Reports from Cameroon online portal AllezLesLions.net have it that PSG boss Thomas Tuchel and Sporting Director Leonardo Araujo are admirers of the former Schalke 04 defender and are ready to open a chase for his signature.
Matip endured a difficult season at Anfield featuring in few and far between fixtures as injuries blighted his desire to give more in Liverpool’s historic domestic championship success campaign.
Tuchel and German-born Matip are linked by the Cameroonian’s nation of birth and the gaffer is a keen admirer of players with German origin as justified by some of his signings since he came to the French capital.
Matip moved to Anfield in the summer of 2016 as a free agent from German side Schalke 04 and has gone on to win the UEFA Champions League and the English Premier League titles for the Kop.
The defender capped 27 times for Cameroon has four-years left on his current contract at Liverpool, but his problems with injuries could be a reason Liverpool is in the chase of the signature of Senegalese sweeper Kalidou Koulibaly and the arrival of the latter could open doors for the Cameroonian.
Liverpool has already confirmed the departure of Croatian defender Dejan Lovren to Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg this summer.
