Rwandese top division clubs AS Kigali and Rayon Sports are among a growing list of clubs keen on signing Police FC defender Denis Rukundo.

The right back is attracting interest from a number of clubs from the Rwanda Premier League and Tanzania following a solid season for Police FC.

Football256 understands that Kigali and Rayon Sports have shown such strongest interest so far, but Rwanda Police FC has also made contact with Rukundo’s representatives.

Rayon Sport vice-president Roger Aimable Ngonga has made contact with the players’ representatives with the view that they can come to agreement over personal terms before an official bid is tabled.

Rayon Sport fancy their chances this time after their failed attempt to sign the defender last season, before he signed a contract extension with the Cops.

Rukundo, who is also the assistant captain at Police has been rejuvenated since returning to the club in August 2019, where he has become a constant and consistent figure for the club.

He played a crucial role in helping set the club on the course of a top five finish as well as reach the semi-finals of the Uganda Cup.

Rukundo still has a year left on his current contract, but is open to a move and is keen on testing himself again outside Uganda.

“The plan at the moment is to complete the season with Police FC and when we arrive at the end of the season then we can take it from there,” Rukundo exclusively told Football256.

“Post season is busy for most of the players, but I will leave that to my agent and my club to work out a way forward on any offers.”

“I want to focus on my development. There has been development from my first game at Police last season. I am more confident and comfortable. I just want to keep on getting better,” he added.

Sources at Police however indicate that no decision has been made on the 24-year-old’s future, but Football256 understands that the club will consider a deal if the price is right.

There is no urge from Police to sell the defender, though they clearly understand Rukundo’s situation and his desire to return to playing football abroad.

Rukundo’s value has risen especially following his imperious performance for the Rwanda Amavubi Stars during the international friendlies against the Central African Republic in June and would command a good transfer fee.

Police have been able to get good moves for some of their top players in recent years, moving on the likes of Juma Balinya, Hood Kaweesa, Paul Willa on decent transfers.
