Second half substitute Joachim Ojera scored for Uganda Cranes as the national team registered a slim win against the Eastern region select team at the Mbale Municipal Stadium.
Apart from Wamboka Edmond (Mbale Heroes), Isma Kalyanswa (Mbale Garage) and Ibrahim Pengere (Admin), the rest of the Eastern Region Select starting eleven were from Kataka FC, whose coach Godfrey ‘Toldo’ Awachango took charge of the home side.
Meanwhile, Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic preferred to start KCCA forwards Sadat Anaku and Rogers Mato who were only added to the squad at the last minute.
The first half ended goalless as only Emmanuel Mukisa for the Eastern region and Poloto for Uganda Cranes came close to scoring respectively.
Besides Julius Poloto and Jack Komakech who had earlier on come on for Nafian Alionzi towards the end of the first, Micho changed all his starting eleven in the second half.
Less than fifteen minutes on, Joackiam Ojera opened the scoring for Uganda Cranes towards the hour mark.
Immediately after the goal, Lawrence Oloboro and Robert Edmond Otim came on for Tiff Kahandi and Edmond Wamboka.
In the 67 minute, Simon Tamale came on for Jack Komakech, as Munyolo Bosco came on for the Eastern region
In the 75th minute, Sadat Anaku returned to the pitch to replace Julius Poloto. Three minutes after, Steven Makumba replaced Kasibante in the Eastern region’s goal.
In the 90th minute, Rogers Mato came on once again for Sadat Anaku. Usama Khayemba also came on for the home side late in the second half, and he turned on the style. At one time he rounded three defenders before passing successfully.
The fans still managed to watch the game though they were not allowed inside the Stadium, they climbed over the fence and watched as they cheered on both sides.
