UCU Lady Cardinals captain Hasifa Nassuna has noted the urge for her team mates to respond immediately with positive results after losing to Lady Doves.
Fazila Ikwaput netted a brace as Lady Doves staged a remarkable 2-1 comeback against UCU Lady Cardinals to secure a spot in the semi finals of this year’s FUFA Women Football Super League (FWSL).
UCU Lady Cardinals assistant coach Asiimwe Simon blamed their loss on his players unwillingness to go for more after leading.
“It was a bad day in office. Our mistakes cost us and we have to improve immediately. We had very poor communication right form the goalkeeper,” he said.
UCU Lady Cardinals captain Hasifa Nasuna couldn’t agree more than her coach’s submission.
“We became so reluctant after scoring so early in the game. And we made a lot of mistakes that cost us a well deserved three points because we played really well,” Nassuna admitted.
Lady Doves assistant coach Rajab Buyinza meanwhile attributed his team’s victory to teamwork and mastering the game plan that includes Ikwaput as key.
Ikwaput’s two goals take her tally to seven in three games so far, the highest in the tournament at the moment.
“With a player like Ikwaput on our side we’re always sure of scoring anytime. We’re really blessed to have her,” Buyinza uncompromisingly said of a player who has scored seven of their eight goals at the tournament.
“She always wants to win and keeps on encouraging her teammates to stay up. Ikwaput is so willing to learn, and that’s what makes her the best,” he added.
Hasifa Nassuna converted from the spot to put UCU Lady Cardinals in front in the 19th minute.
Ikwaput equalized for Lady Doves, capitalizing on miscommunication in defence for UCU Lady Doves towards the end of the first half.
In the 74th minute, Ikwaput scored from the penalty spot to put Lady Doves in the lead after she was brought down in the box by Shadia Nankya.
Lady Doves maintain their lead in Group B of the FWSL table with seven points from three games, they have won twice and drawn once.
UCU Lady Cardinals are still second with three points from two games, and another to be played Thursday April 29, 2021 against Isra Soccer Academy who are yet to win any point in the tournament.
